Start with the size guide for the rug you intend to buy. A measurement taken one way can give the wrong answer when you use a chart that expects another.
Record the method, as well as the number
The Horseware size guide uses a soft tape from the centre of the chest, over the shoulder, to the centre of the tail. It then instructs you to subtract 10 cm (4 inches) before choosing from its table. That adjustment belongs to that method; don't automatically apply it to another brand's chart.
Keep a measurement note
- Write down the date, unit and both endpoints.
- Save the manufacturer's chart alongside the note.
- Ask the retailer how to handle a measurement between two sizes before ordering.
Use the rug size calculator for a WeatherBeeta chart lookup using a chest-to-end-of-rump measurement. Do not enter the adjusted Horseware measurement above: the methods are different. A chart match cannot establish whether a particular cut fits your horse.
