Check both the protection level and the label date. They answer different questions, and a requirement for a particular activity may specify both.
A specific 2026 example
The BHS Assessment Body Protector Guidelines 2026 require a BETA Level 3 body protector with a blue 2018 label where a body protector is mandatory. The document includes an exception for an Exo Body Cage with a BETA Level 3 2000 label, with advance notification to the Chief Assessor. This is an assessment rule, not a statement of every organisation's requirements.
Before buying
Confirm the rules for your activity with its organiser. Arrange a fitting, taking the clothing you intend to wear beneath the protector. The BHS buying guidance recommends an appropriately trained fitter.
An air jacket is a separate equipment choice. Check the organiser's permission and the manufacturer's instructions rather than assuming it can replace a required body protector.
